Sixteen teams of four students got together and relived their primary School Sports Day early this month. Teams competed against each other in the traditional egg and spoon, sack, wheelbarrow and relay races and the not so traditional welly whanging event and space hopper race. The main attraction had to be the 82ft inflatable obstacle course! Everyone, including spectators, got a chance to pit themselves against the inflatable obstacle course and everyone had a great time. Each competitor received a free t-shirt and the winners of the races were awarded medals at the end of each race. The overall winning team received a trophy at the end of the event. Students told us they really enjoyed our School Sports Day and were looking forward to doing it again next year when it will be bigger and better!
We held a small Easter event in the Chancellor’s Mall where we decorated plain chocolate eggs with icing sugar, eyes, ears and all sorts of things and turned them into some surprising creations! This gave the CECs an opportunity to sit down with students in a relaxing environment and chat about everything and anything, with the added benefit that everyone got to eat lots of chocolate!
The President Elect Raz Riaz along with elected Delegates to Conference Joanne Jones and Maddison Hope-Tatnell attended NUS Conference which took place over 3 days in Brighton. With over 1,200 delegates attending, National Conference was again the largest democratic gathering of students in the world. Our delegates were there to represent the views of students at the University of Bolton, and with this in mind, they debated and voted on motions and elected NUS’s new officers for the year ahead. NUS’s AGM also took place and our team voted on motions on corporate governance reform, democratic governance reform and membership contribution which were all passed. Raz, Joanne and Maddison told us they had a fantastic time and it was an amazing opportunity to influence and be part of the NUS movement and represent the views of students at the University of Bolton.
The Society of the month goes to the Christian Union. Chairperson, Omar Levene, organised a forum which was open to all staff and students regardless of their faith or no faith to debate the question “Is religion dangerous?” The event was well attended by students and staff and was an opportunity for attendees to talk and debate openly and candidly about their views. Email Omar to join the Christian Union and get information on future events.
