Together with the Careers and Employability service, we held a Volunteering and Part-time employment opportunities event. Held in the Chancellor’s Mall this was a very busy event with lots of charities, employers and students in attendance. The response from students was that it was very beneficial and you would like to see another event next year.
We started training the SU Society officers to help them make their society the best it can be. We currently have 17 active societies, meeting regularly and generally having a great time.
We are continuing to do lecture shout outs and recruiting Course Reps. We are also training these Course Reps, both new and continuing.
To help you with the rising cost of living we launched our Cost of Living campaign. At the start of October, we offered students a free healthy breakfast in the Loft, and had a stand in the Mall giving out helpful tips to stay warm and eat well for less. We had our SU Wheel out, giving students an opportunity to spin the wheel to win gloves, socks and hand warmers. We held competitions so you could win a keep warm kit, a slow cooker and an electric blanket. We held a free lunch or hot chocolate in the Loft. It was so popular we ran out of food!
Lots of you have been asking us if we could keep the Hangout open later in the evenings, you asked, so we did! You can now heat, eat and chill without spending a penny in the Hangout, come and join Chef Mike..rowave on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until 7.30pm.
Together with the Student Experience Team we put on a big event at the start of Black History Month. We had stalls, African Drummers, speakers in the SLZ and information boards in the Chancellor’s Mall. At the end of the event, a student commented “it’s been an absolutely brilliant event and I really enjoyed it.” A member of an outside organisation who attended said “it was amazing and we hope to come to next year’s event.”
At the end of October, we put on our Spooky Week. We did Give It a Go Halloween make-up, Pumpkin Carving, we put on some spooky fun games in the Mall and had lots of small competitions to win some treats. The Hook a Duckula was particularly popular!
The International Student Community with help from the SU held an event in the SLZ to welcome our international students to the University of Bolton.
We squeezed in a few Give It A Go events too; Egg and Spoon Race (Chancellor’s Mall), Art Therapy (The Loft) and a Pool Tournament (The Hangout).
