At the beginning of November, the nominations opened for the Student Led Teaching Awards.  These awards give you an opportunity to say a big “thank you” to the staff and students that make this University work.  Vote online here or vote on paper at various locations and campuses around the University.

As part of the Health and Wellbeing Week, we asked students to complete a “Let’s Improve Student Wellbeing” Survey, with the aim of, you guessed it, improving student wellbeing!

During the Health and Wellbeing Week, the CECs had a de-stress station in the Chancellor’s Mall.  Students played with playdoh, did some colouring and completed a 1,000 dot to dot.  We also gave out free stress balls to stressed out students!

Information was available on drink awareness; students were asked to pour out what they thought was a single and a double measure, this was then converted into units.  Many students were surprised at just how many units they drank and said they would consider this when next drinking alcohol.

Exhibitors at the Health and Wellbeing Fair in the Chancellor’s Mall chatted to students and gave out freebies.  Exhibitors included the Mood Matters Society, LGBT+ Society, Vegetarian and Vegan Society and Bolton Sexual Health amongst others.  Feedback from students was that you found it interesting and informative, and it gave you a chance to see what information and help is available in Bolton and it was a great opportunity to speak to other students on campus through societies and the SU CECs.

Eilidh continued with the Course Rep Training in November, training more new Course Reps and those students who couldn’t make the Course Rep Training Conference.

Societies and Sports clubs were represented in the Chancellor’s Mall on the second Student Activities Awareness Day.  We gave students another opportunity to see what’s on offer and to join up.

When Life gives you lemons..….We asked you to take a break and join us in a glass of refreshing ‘home made’ lemonade and give some time to think about how you can made the best of your situation, both inside and outside of university.  We wanted to help you turn setbacks into something positive.

Finally in November, Tom promoted the “Ask for Angela” initiative – a new scheme being rolled out in licensed premises across Bolton in a bid to make nights out safe.  If students, or anyone, feels threatened or vulnerable during a night out in Bolton town centre, and feel they cannot speak out, they can go up to bar staff and “ask for Angela.”  Bolton Police have launched the nationally recognised “Ask for Angela” scheme across the pubs and clubs in Bolton town centre.  The campaign is aimed at reducing sexual violence and abuse in the area by providing those in need a platform to discreetly approach staff and ask for help.
