November 2015 Impact

What we did for Students in November 2015:

  • The Students’ Union CEC’s (Community Engagement Co-ordinators) helped students to set up four new Societies; Afro-Caribbean Society, Arts Society, Social Society and the Uniformed Veterans Society.  If you are interested in joining any of these societies or finding out what they get up to, visit their pages on our website or call into the SU for details.

  • We joined the nation in raising money for Children In Need.  We did Pudsey Bear face painting, name the turtle and students paid money to sponge our President amongst other things!  We had lots of fun and raised £80 for Childrenin Need. See our blog post on the event here.

  • Vivienne and Caitlin (CEC) Set up a Moodle site for Course Reps and Societies.  Here, students can access training and information which will help and support them fulfil their roles.

  • We had a stand at the Student Safety event which took place in November.   We spoke and gave out information about Hate Crime.  Students are able to report Hate Crimes to Janet Galligan at the SU - more information on Hate Crime can be found here.  This event was attended by the emergency services and local charities.  Students got help and advice about staying safe, both indoors and outdoors, and there were lots of useful freebies given out too.

  • A large number of students have been telling us that as they have lectures on Wednesday afternoons, they are unable to take part in BUCS sporting fixtures.  As a result, the SU is conducting a survey gathering students views on keeping Wednesday afternoons free for sport.  Look out for the CEC’s around campus with the survey.  Results will be published at a later date.

  • We were able to help students who were struggling financially by referring them to the Hoot Credit Union.  The Students’ Union has a unique relationship with Hoot Credit Union, whereby Hoot Credit Union offers students short term loans on low interest rates.  Anyone who is a University of Bolton Student is eligible. Find more about our work with Hoot here.

  • The CEC’s helped the Post-Graduate Research Society set up their Poster Presentation event.  They manned the ballot box when students voted for their favourite poster and offered support and encouragement to the Society.
