A big hello and welcome to new students and a big hello and welcome back to our returning students.  It’s quite a different University than we are used to, with COVID-19 restrictions in place, but we are doing the best we can to make your student experience a good one.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we haven’t seen many of you on campus, but, nevertheless, we are still here for you.  You can call in, email or use social media to get in touch.

We weren’t able to put on our usual Fresher’s events and Welcome Fair, but we put together some online Fresher’s events for you.   We had Netflix parties, Quizzes and Bongo Bingo during the evening and during the day we put on Make A Mate session which were aimed at giving you the opportunity to meet others, have someone to talk to and find out about the SU and what they could get involved in.  Those of you who took part said you had a good time.

Welcome and Induction talks were held online this year and the SU team attended 25 Welcome Talks introducing the Students’ Union to hundreds of new students.

September saw the start of recruitment for this year’s Course Reps and so far we have had a good response.  Training will commence in October.

Societies are working differently due to current restrictions, which means they are unable to host face to face events, therefore we are supporting them to host exciting online events safely.  They are also actively recruiting new members so, check out the Societies webpage for more information.

Throughout September we have been busy giving advice to students on appeals, issues with their course, issues with Zoom and concerns over face coverings.  After liaising with the University all concerns were resolved.
