The annual Mood Matters Conference took place at the beginning of March and the CEC’s were there to help the Mood Matters Society officers make sure this event ran smoothly.  This society aims to tackle the compelling issues of mental health amongst university students.  The event was well attended and it was a great success.

Voting got underway in the Leadership Race and you elected Ansh Sachdeva as your next SU President.   Ansh said in his pledge that he ran for President as the University is such a great place and has potential to grow.  He also wants to help students voice their opinions, whatever they may be.  We look forward to Ansh taking up his post at the beginning of July.

You also elected Mr Shah as NUS Delegate to conference.  Mr Shah will accompany the current President, Bolu, to conference where around 1000 delegates from universities across the country will come together to discuss policy and hold to account the Officers that have been in office since July 2018.  Delegates will also elect the leadership of NUS for the 2019/20 year.

We would also like to thank Mekshabye Burrun, who ran against Ansh for President, for the fantastic campaign she led.

The SU held its inaugural Speak Week campaign which took place across all campuses with SU staff and volunteers asking students for their opinion on various aspects of the Students’ Union.   The response was magnificent and we got 722 responses.  We will be analysing these responses carefully, and will publish an action plan based upon them.

We had fun with students on Shrove Tuesday by getting you to take part in a pancake flipping contest in the Mall – pancakes were ready made and the winner was a student who managed to flip a pancake in a frying pan more than 60 times at a rate of more than 1 per second without dropping it on the floor.  We were very impressed.  The pancakes were safely recycled in the bin!

Danielle continued with Society Officer training as we had 3 new societies set up this month.  See the webpage for full details of all SU societies.
