What are the Articles of Association?
As a registered charity we have Articles of Association which are rules by which the Union operates. It sets out how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to students. Some of these processes are required by law (1994 Education Act), while others are a matter for the Union to choose.
These Articles of Association are approved by students at the AGM and then by the Union’s Board of Trustees and the University’s Board of Governors.
These are then submitted to the Charity Commission of England and Wales who oversee that charities meet their legal obligations.
The Union has recently reviewed its Articles of Association and these draft Articles of Association will be presented to the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 3rd April for approval.
