Academic Group Level Reps

Take a look at our new prezi:http://prezi.com/a_4s7nlnt-ne/academic-group-reps/

Who are they?

There are 6 Academic Group Reps, one for each academic school; Business, Accounting and Law; Creative Technologies; Health and Community Studies; Education and Psychology; Engineering, Science and Sport; Art, Design and Languages. These reps are involved in communicating the opinions and ideas of the whole academic group which could include representing students’ view from a variety of courses under one academic school.

What do they do?

The role of an Academic Group Rep doesn’t differ too far from that of a Course Rep but they are responsible for representing a much larger student voice, that of their academic school. They do this by attending different meetings across the university and Students’ Union.

They attend Academic Group level meetings (similar to Course Committee meetings) throughout the year, and will be responsible for collecting students and Course Reps views before these meetings and acting upon the issues presented. They are expected to support the Course Reps and take any concerns that they feel have not been dealt with to a more advanced level.

Throughout the year you will be required to help to promote a number of activities taking place on campus such as the Students’ Union Elections, The NSS (National Student Survey) and the Student Led Teaching Awards.

Academic Group Reps also gain a place on the Student Union Council. They will attend these meetings twice or three times a year alongside the Students’ Unions full time / part time Officers. They will discuss all types of issues that they feel are important to the improvement of student experience and welfare at the University of Bolton

The feedback from Academic Group Reps is vital in the open and honest communication that all our students expect of us. They will be dealing with academic school level issues and will be key players in representing students’ voices at different levels within the university.

How can I get involved?

If you would like to be an Academic Group Rep then you will need to fill out an application form and then candidates will be shortlisted from each academic group and will attend an interview. Successful candidates will then be appointed and undergo training to help support them in their role. Please note that if you are currently an Academic Group Rep you will need to re-apply if you wish to be a rep this academic year.
