Many people have lots of questions about the Student Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs). Here's a few responses to the most common questions.

 

How are the winners chosen?

The winners are chosen by a panel of students and a senior staff member from the university.

 

Isn’t this just a popularity contest?

The winners are chosen because of the quality of the nominations, not the quantity of nominations. So make sure you tell us WHY you think the member of staff or student(s) deserves to win- in the past we've seen single nominations that have won staff members the award just by themselves.

 

What do the winners receive?

Simply- the recognition from staff and students that they are some of the best at what they do at the University of Bolton. They are invited to our awards ceremony where they receive a framed certificate and an award. They also get some food and get to chat to some of the other best lecturers/ supervisors/ support staff in the University and the senior managers.

 

Aren't you opening the nominations for the Student-Led Teaching Awards a bit early this year?

Yes- we’re opening the nominations period a bit earlier so that students can nominate staff members in the first semester and the second semester as well.

 

Can I nominate more than one person?

Of course! You can nominate as many times as you want. As we say above, it's not the number of nominations, but the quality of nominations that counts. But if you wanted to nominate more than person for the same award, feel free!

 

Do I get to go to the Awards Ceremony?

We will invite some students who nominated those members of staff who are shortlisted to attend the Awards Ceremony. Keep an eye on your emails for an invite!

 

What do you do with the text from the nominations?

We try to use the text to identify what students want from their lecturers, support staff, personal tutors, academic society, etc etc. So we use what students tell us to help inform our policies and positions on what makes an amazing student experience at Bolton. By nominating you're not just highlighting the best members of staff and students on campus, you're also helping us to improve the student experience for years to come.
